Holistic
Health Tips - Part III
Yoga may be very
helpful for improving breathing. An article printed in the
April, 2006 edition of the Thai Journal of Physiological Sciences
found that regular yoga exercise increased chest wall expansion
and lung volumes in healthy young Thai subjects. The subjects
were given yoga exercises to do for 20 minutes three times
a week for six weeks. At the end of the trial the yoga
study subjects all showed improved chest while expansion
while the controls did not. The results of this study suggest
that yoga exercises improves breathing capacity and lung volumes.
The
Alexander Technique - provides a systematic guide to all
Alexander Technique information and resources. Additional
information may be found at physical
therapy and the Alexander technique web site. The Alexander
technique is helpful for improving your posture - soemthing
most of us could use, especially if, like me, your natural
tendency is to slouch over a keyboard all day. One of my relatives
tried lessons in this healing technique, and did notice a
change in his posture for the better after some of the classes.
Over time, though the lessons "wore off" so I think
in order to see the benefits it might be something you either
have to stick with or have a refresher course now and then.

Healing in Britain offers courses in learning Taoism,
Taoist meditation, books, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, shamanic, and
QiGong. I currently do not know a lot about these topics but
they are on my reading list. I have trouble doing anything
that tightens my muscles so I'm interested in learning
more about Qi Gong as possible a gentle way to exercise
as well as relax.
