Tips from The Yoga Place - Part I
Back Pain
If
you suffer from
back or neck pain, watch your posture, especially if you
sit at a desk all day. Eat a healthy diet
including lots of magnesium rich foods. Magnesium is the main
nutrient involved in muscle relaxation and studies show that
most Americans simply do not get enough of this important
mineral. Be sure to stretch and exercise frequently. Yoga
is a good way to give all of your muscles a work out. Backbends
are especially good poses for most office workers because
they counteract being hunches over a desk for hours a ta time.
Another
tip that works great for back and neck pain is to do trigger
point therapy on yourself using a tennis ball. This is especially
good if you suffer from sciatic pain down one or both legs.
You
can just roll around on the floor using a tennis ball, going
over the tight spots in your muscles that have trigger points.
For sciatica, I have found the best place is on the side of
the hip and right in the middle of the buttocks, but this
probably varies by individual. The best thing to do is to
find your own trigger
points and then massage them with your fingers, a massage
tool or the tennis balls. If you have two tennis balls, you
can tape them together and then roll on them on the floor
up and down your spine. This releases the trigger points on
each side of the spinal column and is especially helpful for
low back pain.

When
one door of happiness closes, another opens: but often we
look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one
which has been opened for us.
